[clug] Kubuntu 10.04/Lynx (upgrade): systemsettings not working properly

Running "set date/time" from the desktop doesn't work
[Shows single Timezone, UTC, and can't set 'NTP' on]

Seems to work OK running from CLI:
  kdesudo systemsettings

1. I've done a bit of searching, and problems like this go back a long
way. Never saw a resolution.

2. Where are the KDE log files??
   Can't see anything in /var/log/*
If I could see the underlying error, might be fixable.

3. I presume this has to do with the upgrade from 8.04 (ie. OK in
straight install)
I've installed 'ibus', which was throwing errors from the CLI
   'purged' some old KDE3 packages.

There are a number of packages 'held back'.
I don't know how to find out why... [Hints?]
I've --resinstalled a number of things, no help.

Any ideas from the KDExperts on list?

cheers
s
