Well.... they do :-)   But not to the depth you really need.

As far as I am aware, there's no specific "Samba running on Linux" mailing 
list - this is a general-purpose "Linux User's Group" mailing list.

As mentioned, you really want samba at samba.org or  samba-technical at samba.org

Excellent!  Nobody here is going to complain about that, but since my 
initial response was the first, you can probably assume that the people 
lurking here either don't know the answers, or would really prefer you to 
ask on the relevant mailing list :-)  Still, if you'd like to continue to 
hash things out here, I'm interested in the answers to the questions in my 
first response...
