Me again (last one). Actually, the link that Steve found wasn't the
5 year-old Ubuntu thread that Google turned up for Ivan, but the link
to Medibuntu (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu ), which
includes the win32codecs in the non-free repository.

But a pang of conscience overcame me as I was about to add that
repository to my machine and I decided not to proceed with
installing the win32codecs after all. I don't want to have non-free
codecs on my machine in order to listen to my (tax-funded) public
broadcaster. Maybe I'll take up Alex's suggestion and write that letter.

I'll just have to try harder to find the source of that interference
on my AM band. Or maybe setup an AM receiver somewhere else and then
stream it to my house using Ogg or some other free format (I wonder if
ABC legal would have a problem with that?).
