If it's any consolation, there are some who explicitly define what they
will accept and MS Word is not on the list.
Submitting in word format is an ... elegant way of demonstrating an
inability to follow simple instructions; and by breaking common
assumptions, attention to detail.

Much like Van Halen and their "no brown M&M's" as a Q&D test that their
stage had been setup correctly and hence safely.
