Canberra Linux Users Group Meeting - 24th September 2009
	========================================================

Date: 24th September 2009 (Fourth Thursday of the month)

Time: 19:00 - 21:00 (or when it finishes)

Speaker:	Dr Denise J Bates

Abstract:	Slackware is the longest surviving Linux distro, and its
interface has hardly changed since 1993.

It will install on fairly low-spec machines (including
netbooks) that "modern" distros will baulk at, or onto
a 2-4GB USB stick as well.

Denise will demonstrate a Slackware installation and
configuration, with a view to encouraging a discussion
(hopefully constructive) of the relative merits of text
		vs GUI methods.

Coming from a Social Science background, Denise says
that she couldn't claim to be a geek, but has used
Slackware Linux almost exclusively for well over a
decade. She has become comfortable with Slackware's
largely text-based installation and configuration and
despite her occasional experiment with other distros,
remains skeptical about the purportedly "easy"
GUI-based methods of many other "modern" distros.

Venue: Room N101
Computer Science and Information Technology Building
		North Road
		The Australian National University

See http://clug.org.au/ for more directions and a map

Food/drink:	Pizza and soft drink/juice. Come hungry, and bring
about $6 to cover the cost of your share if you
		want some.
