Stephen Fry mentioned on Top Gear he had "Grindr" on his iPhone.
Seems a neat App to me - but specifically for the bi/gay/etc community.
Not me :-(

I was interested to know how it worked...
Like Torrent (distributed) or Server or like Skype (sorta both)?
Only works on iPhones/iPod Touch.

Apple's AppStore says the company is "Nearby Buddy Finder LLC"
<http://www.appstorehq.com/nearbybuddyfinderllc-8013/developer>

But they don't say much about themselves:
<http://www.grindrguy.com/Grindr_iPhone_App/About_Grindr.html>

Nor could I find any hints about how they do it...
Claims that it does in one step what others take 5 or more to do...
Oh, And they'd like to believe its the "next killer App".
They'd say that, wouldn't they?

Another iPhone App that a similar thing, but includes laptops.
C/o is iCloseBy LLC.

<http://icloseby.com/what_is_ifob.html>
"iFob is software which turns iPhones & laptops into wireless
Icebreaking Beacons."

"iFob isn't a MySpace, dating or a Facebook site.
"iFob is not a site at all."

What I'd like to do, either at Conference (like LCA, if I ever went) or
in CBR or when visiting, is to find any FOSS people, or folks with
similar interests...

=> Does anyone have/know of any technology they already use for this?
