+ve (overwhelmingly so).
Have maintained/written/documented medical image analysis code for the
past 12 years or so. ('apt-get install minc-tools' and friends).
Haven't noticed any trends where differing genders tend to do
different parts (documentation/coding/etc). Split of the major 2
genders (of which we know there are 5) tends to be 70% male, 30%
female.
Note that this is research based code so most of the users/coders are
research post-docs and the likes.
