Apropos of the "secure deletion" debate that was going on quite a while ago: forensics specialist says secure deletion occurs with just one overwrite:

Of course, this doesn't exclude the possibility of the government with their secret superconducting quantum inference detectors somehow extracting the data -- but if you're that paranoid, you're not going to trust anything anyway.
