Face to face is still the best method for teaching people things.

Words just aren't as friendly as people, and face to face interaction  
means you can actually interact and cover material in 10 minutes  
instead of contributing an email discussion lasting days. When the  
instructor is giving instructions and the student is typing stuff in  
and an unexpected error occurs, the instructor doesn't have to ask  
about machine configuration, installed versions, yadda yadda - it's  
right there in front of them.

Besides, some people just need the safety net of having a  
knowledgeable person around to warn, "don't do that" before the blue  
smoke escapes.
