I don't play much any more but am very interested in game development, and would like to know if anyone else on the list is also. Or perhaps just organize something as the topic of the next programming SIG?

Well, not the next programming SIG (I already have dibs on that...).

BUT, I would be interested in starting a game development "club" for
young people (high-school aged). FOSS, of course!

As it happens, I know nothing about game development, but I know lots
of high-school aged kids (almost all boys) who would/might be
interested in getting together and learning about it all. They would
mainly be coming from a Micro$oft and VB etc. background, so I am
keen to steer some/all of them towards FOSS and games seems to be the
common interest.

I am thinking of getting some people who do know about how FOSS games
work and spend some time regularly looking into stuff like:
  - how a game engine works
  - how to write new characters, scenarios, strategies
  - why FOSS is the way to go
  - how to write programs
  - etc. (off the top of my head, I know nothing about games...)

So, anyone interested in maybe trying to get something like this
going, please let me know. If you had the idea first, also let me
know (as I am keen not to re-invent the wheel here...).

Depending upon how we want to set it all up, we might need to look
into stuff like requirements to do police checks and taking child
protection and safety courses etc.

Cheers,

Bob Edwards.
