There are two main "phases" of deployment of TransACT - phase 1 and 2,
representing TransACT's optical fibre network (phase 1) versus
outsourced connectivity (ADSL 2+).

Phase 1: you'll have a big white box about the size of a netbook, with
ethernet ports in the back, one of which connects to the set-top box
(to provide TV services), the other will be connected to whatever
router or computer the customer is currently using.

  - You will have to use an Ethernet router that can handle PPPoE for
uplink

Phase 2: you'll already have a Netcomm NB-6 ADSL modem/router (which
was provided with the TransACT connection). This will be connected to
whatever router or computer the customer is currently using.

  - You can use any Ethernet equipment of your choice, the NB-6
handles DHCP and DNS
  - You can replace the NB6 with another ADSL 2+ modem/router of your
choice
  - I'm fairly sure the NB6 is part of the TransACT equipment, so don't
dispose of it if you replace it with your own ADSL router

In both cases, there is nothing magical to worry about unless you're
on Phase 1 network and are trying to do funky stuff like pipe TransTV
to your computer instead of the TV.

I'm using a D-Link ADSL 2+ router on TransACT Phase 2 network at home
(Isabella Plains), and it works just fine. I was using a D-Link
wireless router on TransACT Phase 1 at my Dad's place until it died to
"lightning strike" (I could blame it on vampires, but most people will
believe lightning did it).

My recommendation is to use Linksys or D-Link gear, since that's the
stuff I've had experience with that works nicely for me.
