And then to truly blow your mind, try it with two or three different  
brands of laptop or monitor and see that some screens (eg: most Macs,  
EIZO Flexscan) have huge vertical and horizonal viewing angles, while  
others (eg: HP, Acer) are clearly built to the price end of the scale.

Tipping a 24" iMac on its side will not give you colour defects,  
you'll just get vignetting (the brightness falls off towards what are  
now the "left" and "right"). Though at close to $3k for an iMac or  
EIZO Flexscan, the viewing angle probably comes at a much higher  
premium than most people are prepared to pay.

Ah, the good old days of the RADIUS Pivot monitor...
