On a standard kernel (eg: Debian) is there a quicker or lighter way to get a
bare operating system up and running than Busybox.Boot sequence is Grub ->
lightly modified Initramfs -> busybox console.
Gets up in about 10 seconds on a decent P4. Even a fully stripped Debian box
takes 20% more on the same system, Ubuntu 50% more.
Ubuntu doesn't take as well to being stripped as Debian does, its Initramfs
is a wee bit too clever.

The reason for the standard kernel is to allow some closed source drivers to
be used.
