In the physical world an atheist can sit in an atheist convention and
talk about how people who believe in God will bring about a new dark
age. A Christian can sit in church and talk about how everyone who
doesn't believe in God will go to hell.

A Christian avoids being insulted by not going to the atheist
convention, an atheist avoids being insulted by not going to a church
service. There is some spillover into public space from both but it's
small enough that it's easily ignored.

I'm not sure how the internet is any different.
