Hi folks

If you havn'y stumbled across this and you are using gnome, try me-tv, 
https://launchpad.net/me-tv.

Does a nice job of creating a channels.conf file which can be edited and 
is transportable to xine and mplayer.

Havn't tried this on KDE so don't know if it works or not
