Might seem silly but you could use the server as a primary domain controller
and drop in scripts (to mount NFS or orther) to run at log on time for the
clients (kids).
Seems overkill though.

I haven't tested Linux uPNP, but as a laptop is our home router I'll be keen
to hear if there are any better suggestions.
(no wired net access so the only way to have a shared connection is Telstra
wireless + Linux)
