Well, no clues per se, but my debugging from there would be:

1) Is there anything showing up in the system message log or the audit logs?

2) Have you got IPTables opened up on those ports?

3) Have you checked the dovecot configuration to make sure it's set up to
allow incoming connections?  From memory, dovecot's configuration by default
doesn't allow incoming connections from anywhere.
