Hi everyone,

Preparations for Software Freedom Day 2008 are under way, and the plan is to
go with the tried and true formula from previous years. We will be running a
stand at the Computer Fair at the Bus Depot Markets (or wherever it is),
demonstrating machines running Linux and giving away CDs of FOSS. I've put in
a grant proposal to Linux Australia to get CDs professionally printed at a
fraction of the cost that the CD-Rs cost last time, so we should be able to
give away something that looks really good. We'll also have a donations box
for people to pay something back for the cost of the CD.

If you're interested in this, please go and add your name to the page at
http://softwarefreedomday.org/teams/Canberra so I know how many people are
coming. If you can't or don't want to do that, email me and I'll put your
name down, or note it separately so that I can work out numbers.

I'd also like to run an install-fest the week after SFD to help anyone
interested get Linux and FOSS installed and working on their computer. The
plan would be to have a set of CDs, install media for various distros, a
server to serve NFS images and other useful goodies, and tea and coffee and
maybe some snacks. There'd be tables and power distributed around the room
and, as people came in, they'd be given a name label and guided to a table to
set up. The helpers ("installers", maybe?) would have name badges so it would
be easy for instalees to direct questions to the right people.

How does this all sound? Any further ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Paul
