For "time make clean vmlinux":
real 88m51.677s
user 75m32.899s
sys 6m37.129s

---
pbarker at milligan:/misc/linux/linux-git$ ls -l vmlinux
-rwxr-xr-x 1 pbarker pbarker 509818962 Jan 23 11:44 vmlinux*
pbarker at milligan:/misc/linux/linux-git$ ls -lh vmlinux
-rwxr-xr-x 1 pbarker pbarker 487M Jan 23 11:44 vmlinux*
pbarker at milligan:/misc/linux/linux-git$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'model
name'
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
pbarker at milligan:/misc/linux/linux-git$ free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 2076732 1300680 776052 0 11600 851064
...
pbarker at milligan:/misc/linux/linux-git$ sudo /sbin/hdparm -Tt /dev/md2

/dev/md2:
  Timing cached reads: 972 MB in 2.00 seconds = 485.79 MB/sec
  Timing buffered disk reads: 336 MB in 3.01 seconds = 111.55 MB/sec
pbarker at milligan:/misc/linux/linux-git$

I do, however, vaguely recollect taking 8 hours to compile a kernel - on
my DX4-100 with 8M of memory....
