Canberra Linux Users Group Meeting - 28th August 2008
===================================================
Date: 28th August 2008 (Fourth Thursday of the month)
Time: 19:00 - 21:00 (or when it finishes)
Speaker: Dave Adams, Paul Wayper and Hugh Blemings
Abstract:
This month we have three short presentations with
something for everyone!
Dave Adams will give a brief introduction to Wine and
present a demonstration of the programs it can run (with
a focus on games).
Paul Wayper will give a quick introduction to SELinux -
specifically, how to deal with it in everyday life. He
will cover checking and restoring permissions, changing
the SELinux options, and the broader question of how to
deal with a SELinux alert.
And last but certainly not least, Hugh Blemings will
conduct an informal session (with plenty of
demonstrations) entitled, 'Tricks of the Trade: Learning
Free Software hacking from clever people'.
Hugh says that thanks to the efforts of various projects
aimed at newcomers to Free Software development,
starting hacking is no longer as daunting as it once
was. However there is less coverage of the techniques
that experienced developers use on a day to day basis to
streamline their work.
Hugh will present a grab bag of tricks of the trade that
he has learned from his own coding efforts, through
observing colleagues at OzLabs and by chatting with folk
in the broader community.
Certainly a CLUG meeting not to be missed!
