[clug] Linux on new school computers [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hi all,

Kate's aware of FOSS, I've seen her speak on the subject. For example:

http://www.katelundy.info/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id
=60&Itemid=35
http://www.katelundy.info/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id
=53&Itemid=35

So I'd suggest anyone intending to seek her time takes a moment to
Google the existing material so you're not telling her something she
already knows. Take the time to read the ALP's policy on FOSS if it has
one (I didn't read anyone's ICT policy this time around, so don't ask me
if they have one)

Probably worth noting that:
 - FOSS is going to be part of a much larger portfolio of technology
issues
 - Education is still a state responsibility and the government is
unlikely
to be interested in micro-managing state education programmes
 - The new govt is likely to be very busy and have lots of people in
their ear just now

Cheers,

Antti

Subject: [clug] Linux on new school computers

Gday cluggers
The greatest good the new government can do for the australian student
is to have linux as the operating system on their computers. How can we
as a group help make this happen?
I think one of the best ways to do this is by politics. Do any of you
know or have access to any of the labor party politicians? What do you
think is the best way? Any suggestioons?
