In a sensitive environment, you might have secrets stored on the disk  
which people would be prepared to spend $10k to discover through  
special microscopy techniques.

Writing zeroes should be more than enough effort to stop the person  
who buys your second hand hobby computer from discovering your credit  
card details, and your secret collection of Visual Basic .NET  
documentation. Unless that person is prepared to spend the money  
uncovering your deepest darkest secrets ...
