to hear of another source of information, particularly when it is "official".

The source I've always relied upon is http://www.linux-ata.org/ which
is the 'official' website of the libata driver (these days used for
almost all SATA controllers and some IDE controllers).  It contains a
list of supported hardware and a FAQ about "RAID" controllers.
