I am not sure about the PCMCIA card, but the Maxon NextG USB modem does.
Officially it isn't supported by either Telstra or the manufacturer,
but the latter are good enough to point users to a support site: see

I emailed their support contact pointing out they could get it supported
in the kernel for free - so far no response.
