Mikal might like to contribute something here :-)
He's had intimate experience of the process.

I went most of the way through their recruiting process and found it had
serious problems - like 4 or 5 recruiters who'd never talked.
The best thing was their response when I bothered to write down my experience and
to address things that were done well and could be improved - their
blindside. Their response - nil. Means as an organisation they don't
have the gumption to understand the necessity for "feedback".
[Not my problem.]

Plus they had an exceedingly limited 'interview' technique - same format
for both phone and face-to-face.

One person at a time [but 4 people back-to-back - v. trying] and they
all trot out their little 'case study' and ask you to diagnose the
fault... Never the usual questions: "What's the best/worst thing you've
done". Never any way to raise special strengths/knowledge about yourself - that they haven't
had the wit to find out. Never anything about your aspirations and
interests.

Fail one, fail all.

And then there's this almost palpable air of smugness about them all...
"We're from Google, we are the Gods of Computing. Squirm before us."

YMMV.
