Actually, it would appear that since October 2006, it's
    //#define USE_HACK_FOR_BROKEN_I420_SUPPORT_IN_DRIVER
which covers the ATI proprietary and the Intel driver.

A quick change to the patches applied by Ubuntu, and voila.

I gotta say, I love a good package management system
