Carnage there was :-).  But we managed to get it back together again,
fully operational and without any parts left over.

Thankyou so much to Mike for leading the surgery, others who helped out
and to Brad Hards for letting me test with his AC adapter.

It turns out that it is my AC adapter at fault.  A replacement has
already been purchased.
