That can be caused by Windows' swap file.
Boot into Windows, turn off Virtual Memory, backup and defrag.
Then boot into a Linux install and set the slider where you want.
Final touch is to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst
and change "Windows" to "Endless Frustration".

that a page of java won't do more elegantly.
