[clug] wireless internet and linux compatibility

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at getting some wireless internet connectivity for work. This
will probably include a telstra hotspot account and one or more of the
following:

* i-burst
* Optus Wireless Connect
* Telstra EV-DO
* (any other options I have missed)?

I'm interested in hearing people's experiences with these services/hardware,
particularly how well they work under linux. I know a few people (at least
Bob judging by previous posts) use iBurst. I'd be interested in getting an
opinion on the USB vs. PCMCIA modem - both seem to be supported by the
driver http://sourceforge.net/projects/ibdriver/.

The platform I will be using is ubuntu dapper (2.6.15), for which the
ibdriver seems to happily compile and install.

This guy has got a telstra evdo modem working in ubuntu:
http://quozl.linux.org.au/mm-5100/ but the telstra site doesn't really tell
me what brand/model of modem they are going to give me....

Will be using the services mostly in canberra, sometimes in other capital
cities in Australia.

Thanks,

Greg
