We've had numerous problems with Intel 2200BG chipsets in laptops, I 
believe they have a problem with an elevated noise floor.  As such they 
work well in quiet environments, very poorly in others.  Higher signal 
output AP's seems to help, eg: DLink @19dBm vs Linksys @17dBm
