Job Title: Systems Support Officer
Branch: Network Operations
Location: Canberra
Objective: Maintain the operational integrity of the carrier systems
infrastructure and provide support and development of Web
and Network applications.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Proactvely review Systems/Network performance data and take action
as appropriate.
2. Provide minimum level 2 technical support to maintain and repair
the Systems and Applications in use by the business for back-end
and front-end service delivery as well as health and performance
monitoring. Will require to be available on-call to assist in
resolutions and upgrades after hrs.
3. Assist in developing and testing new applications and providing
modifications and improvements to existing applications.
4. Assist other team members in providing data comms support to Level
1 technical staff. This may include: Routing, Switching, Ethernet,
ATM and BroardBand access technologies in an ISP/carrier environment.
5. Consult, communicate and provide competent technical advice to
clients as required to support program and network needs and develop
client (internal/external) relationships.
6. Assist in the development of training programs to familiarize staff
with existing/new network topologies, management systems, processes
and procedures.
7. Carry out administration and maintain documentation to ensure
efficient and effective use of local and network resources.
Required Capabilities/Qualifications/Experience:
1. An excellent working knowledge of Unix Shell Programming, Perl,
Python, or Ruby.
2. Experience in implementing and maintaining systems including Linux
(Fedora, Debian), Unix (Solaris, HPUX), IOS and other network based
operating systems.
3. A demonstrated knowledge of Internet/Network applications and services
such as: RADIUS, DNS, LDAP, FTP, HTTP, TFTP, TELNET, SSH, SMTP, NNTP.
4. Good communication skills; ability to liaise with both internal and
external clients across all levels.
5. Good problem solving and organisational skills, with ability to
prioritise work and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
6. Able to work independently and as part of a team.
7. An understanding of, and commitment to, Corporate Equity and Diversity
and OH&S policies.
Desirable Capabilities/Qualifications/Experience:
1. An understanding of carrier infrastructure Switches, Routers, Firewalls,
VPN technologies and a range of access services.
2. Knowledge of network management principals and related technologies
including SNMP, ICMP polling in conjunction with service visibility,
trending tools and NMS systems (HP OpenView, nagios, cricket, cacti, etc).
3. A basic understanding of telephony technologies including PSTN, ISDN and
VoIP.
Salary:
50-65K Range. Negotiable, depending on skills and experience.
