What tools are there for studying USB traffic
 out of a Windows-only application?

Perhaps a virtual machine to run Windows in,
 with virtual USB that captures traffic to a file.

VMware is a good host for Windows
 but is the USB shim open source enough to be hacked?

A useful addition would be the ability to
 inject event-stamp comments into the file.

Really cool would be a configurable traffic parser.
