I don't know about what Ben said but I do know that skype is not free.
If you are on a public IP address skype can decide your system is a
supernode. All local calls are routed through your system. It can
make your system somewhat unresponsive.
Something else to think about: all your calls are going through
Edith Smith's desktop.
