Hi all,
Last night I was converting some MPEG files into VCD mages and
struck an odd problem:

I have an MPEG file that generates fread() errors and alarming
bad block messages into the syslog when attempting to read that
file. Umounting the disk and running fsck found all sorts of

Initially I thought it was a disk fault, but all other files work.
It seems to be any attempt to read that file from (that?) disk
generates errors. The MPEG file was created (amongst many others)
that work perfectly) using ffmpeg. I did all manner of stress testing
with other files and no problems.

I'm running a 2.4 kernel, the disk in on /dev/hdb (aka the same
controller as the primary system disk).

I've been trying to identify what portion of the file cause the problem.
It's about 200 Mb into a 700 Mb file, but trying to chop that portion out
has been tricky in that it causes more errors.
