Yep, ntfsresize is great.
Theres an easier way to doing it all by hand though...
If you can boot knoppix, I recommend "qtparted".
It's a gui which lets you use a slider to resize your ntfs partition and
create free space. It will show you how much you can shrink it by.
When you commit your changes, it will use ntfsresize to shrink the 
fs, then fix up the partition table for you as well.
