I bought one for work with a web server built in, multiple protocol
support and Pan / Tilt from a remote web interface. Okay, at ~$780 it's
not *quite* the cam you're after, but your question prompts me to ask
mine.

The D-Link camera I bought looks a bit like this:
http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=295 I have it set up in my
server room so I can watch Tom Cruise crawling in through an air duct.
Or something.

It's nice. RJ45 in its backside and it networks to my management
desktop... which now needs to be a Windows machine because the cam
wants to use an ActiveX control in IE6 to display images. I had been
hoping to use a Linux desktop machine as the remote management station,
but this throws a spanner in the works. Had they used Java or
$language_of_choice, the thing might have been cross-platform, but it
looks not to be.

Still, I'm hoping that you with greater wisdom might point a
grasshopper like me in the direction of a way to make the darn thing
work under Linux.

Oh, and my apologies for hijacking the thread.

Cheers,
MC
