Donovan;

What is the MTU set on the two boxes network interfaces? DSL doesn't like a
MTU higher than 1492, which can lead to drop outs and failures while sending
mail. Check the two boxes, I think you might find that's part of the
problem. You can set it via ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492. 1500 is normally fine,
but ppoe needs to reserve 8 bytes for the header information, so you need to
throttle it back to 1492

Steve

%ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr <snip>
          inet addr:192.168.0.101  Bcast:192.168.0.255  Mask:255.255.255.0

Subject: [clug] Postfix Problem.....

G'Day,

- I have PostFix running on a Fedora Core 2 System with the following
config:

alias_database = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases
alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases
command_directory = /usr/sbin
config_directory = /etc/postfix
daemon_directory = /usr/libexec/postfix
debug_peer_level = 2
inet_interfaces = all
mail_owner = postfix
mailq_path = /usr/bin/mailq.postfix
manpage_directory = /usr/share/man
mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, home.local mydomain =
home.local myhostname = smithers.edyeweb.com mynetworks = 192.168.40.0/24
myorigin = edyeweb.com newaliases_path = /usr/bin/newaliases.postfix
notify_classes = bounce, 2bounce, delay, policy, protocol, resource,
software queue_directory = /var/spool/postfix readme_directory =
/usr/share/doc/postfix-2.0.18/README_FILES
relayhost = mail.m.iinet.net.au
sample_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.0.18/samples
sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix
setgid_group = postdrop
soft_bounce = no
unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 450

When sending from the mail server command line as such:

[donovan at moe donovan]$ mail -s "From Command Line" donovan at namsys.com.au aaa
Cc:
[donovan at moe donovan]$ mailq
Mail queue is empty

The logs reflects such (apologies for line breaks its Outlook not me)

So any ideas how come mail sent from the homer.homer.local (192.168.40.50)
box does not get to my ISP's mail server, yet mail sent from the mail server
itself moe.home.local (192.168.40.3) works fine? After all 192.168.40.3
shows it has got the mail OK but then has a problem relaying? The error
message is consistent and happens for each message sent via Outlook on the
192.168.40.50 box. In other words I don't believe I have a connectivity
problem to my ISP.

Any help / suggestions greatly appreciated.
