Yes, the problem was nothing to do with the firewall.

I installed Eudora, and it works fine. Therefore the issue
is with Outlook or Norton's AV, neither of which in Linux
related and therefore not my problem. :o)

My guess is Norton's has done something to Outlook that has
not been un-installed.
