I think you forgot to attach the logfile.

What version of Debian are you using?
Which xfree86 package do you have installed?

I run Sarge a fair bit, and it's configured by a bunch of debconf questions,
and can also autodetect, so I haven't run xf86config in a long time.

What sort of video hardware do you have?
