On our FreeBSD boxes, it's held in /etc/adduser.message, and is mailed
automatically whenever a new user is created. Check adduser to see what
options you have

Does anyone know a nice way of automatically sending an email to a user when
their user account is first generated?

Like "Welcome, thanks for choosing us" etc.

We are using cyrus IMAP but each user has a unix account on the machine too.
