For a desktop install yes you would need probably most of the CD's but for
a minimal install you can just use the first CD to do a minimal install
and then use yum/apt to install anything else you need. I run a local yum
archive for this purpose.
A server install you can get away with mostly the first CD, maybe the second.
Incidentally if anyone who doesn't have the bandwidth wants copies I do
have the ISO (both standard CD and DVD) which I can burn at request.
