[clug] Lintels and Windows

Does anyone else think it's a little ironic, or is this a little
contrived:

"Wintel" = Windows on Intel architecture.
by parallel, "Lintel" = Linux on Intel architecture.

Lintel: n. A horizontal member spanning an opening, and carrying
the superincumbent weight by means of its strength in
            resisting crosswise fracture.

Since many Lintel boxes are used as firewalls*, is that description not
apt?

After all, the Lintel boxes are sitting in the opening (to the
Internet),
carrying the weight of Nimda, Code Red and friends, protecting the
Windows
from cracking.

Just a random thought for the day.

* (the set of "Lintel boxes" and the set of "firewalls" has a large
intersection, in my experience)
