Being a compile from source junky, I'd go for the Linux From Scratch 
distro (www.au.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/news.html) and perhaps a 
collection of stuff from Beyond Linux From Scratch 
(www.au.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/news.html), like KDE, GNOME and their 
supporting libraries.

PS.   I'm in the process of converting my resume to LaTeX, and 
rewriting it with cluggers suggestions in mind.
