If the box isn't hanging and is responsive on the console, and your network
driver is modularised, you can try taking down the network interface,
removing the network driver module, reinserting it and bringing up the
interface again.

What sort of NIC/driver is it?

As others have suggested, if you have spare NICs you might save yourself
some time my just swapping it out...
