The inventors of Tor (www.freehaven.net/tor/) make the penetrating
observation that for crowd anonymity to work, you need a large crowd.
You have to be able to attract many people who may not have strong
requirements but who can provide cover traffic.  So it needs to be
possible to use it in a way which doesn't have horrible response time,
which Freenet probably never really reached.

Freenet's idea of scalable publishing will probably live on in things
like Bittorrent even if Freenet never makes it big.
