You should not need to install the full kernel source if you have the rpm 
applicable to Mandrake 10 from the www.heby.de site.  The full source should 
be needed only if you want to re-compile the ltmodem modules from a source 
tarball.

However, the modules are very much kernel dependent.  If you have updated the 
kernel on your Mandrake 10, you might get a message to the effect "modem not 
found"

If all that fails, you could try SuSE, which has the ltmodem modules included.
