This prompts me to ask a question.
Hans Reiser regards the reiser list as a help list
so he doesn't want it to be member-posting-only.

OTOH it seems reasonable and necessary, (even to Hans)
to confirm the return address of posters same as new members.
ie: a first time un-subscribed poster gets a confirmation message,
"We received this posting from you, if you want it to appear on the list, just hit reply"

Mailman has the ability to suspend delivery, so what's happening
from the lists point of view is a subscription with delivery turned off.

Easy? Hard? In the latest mailman already?

The Spanish threw their government out because:
 (1) 90% were against the Iraq invasion in the first place.
 (2) The reasons for the invasion turned out to be lies.
 (3) The government responded to terror with more lies.
That's not capitulating to terrorists, it's punishing incompetence.
