Help sought on java plugin

A query/request from a Linux amateur.
I have just discovered that the only browser on my box that claims to be
able to use java (Netscape 4.76) has a shaded-out entry for "install
plug-in". So presumably, the required plugin has not been supplied by
RedHat 7.1 and merely ticking "enable java" achieves nothing.
Going to the recommended site for the plugin, I ended up with the
following URL:
ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.2.2/unix/linux22/plugins/jre131_02.xpi
Apart from the fact that I have great doubts about the feasibility of
using a "netscape6" plugin with Netscape 4.76, I noted that - on my box
- the download (if it works first time) is likely to take over 100
minutes on a good day; I threw in the towel after 4 minutes when about
3% of the plugin had been downloaded.
Other relevant facts are:
a) I never use Netscape;
b) My preferred browser - Linux Opera 6.11 - states that it works with
Java2 runtime environment that needs plugin-1.3.1; which may or may
not be the plugin designed to work with Netscape 6.
Now - at last - to the query/request:
Is there any CLUG member who has a plugin that will work with Netscape
4.76 or the plugin-1.3.1 that they would be willing to put on a CD for
me. If so, I might even summons up the courage to attend a CLUG monthly
meeting to pick it up.
Or, alternatively, if one of the Australian Linux suppliers has a CD that
includes the needed plugin, would someone be good enough to point my
nose in the right direction.
