ALSA with cs4281 on 2.5.59

Hey,

I'm being brave and trying to run 2.5.59 for real on my laptop. I have
several problems at the moment, but I thought I would tackle them one at a
time...

I have an IBM Thinkpad X21. lspci assures me I am the proud owner of a
cs4281. I therefore compiled and loaded the following ALSA modules:

 - snd-hwdep
 - snd-opl13-lib
 - snd-cs4281

When I try to use XMMS, I get no sound. This used to work with 2.4.19 and
OSS if that helps.

Any hints?
