When the end really comes

Now, I'm sure many of the people on this list are used to finding uses
for old, slow machines: as home routers or servers, or given away to
charity. But there comes a point when a box's life really is over...
I have an ancient 386 which just plain don't work any more. Either
the motherboard or the memory has gone and, it being a 386, I really
couldn't be bothered trying to figure out which.
So, is there anything I can do with the corpse, which doesn't involve
throwing it, with whatever PCBs, heavy metals and other nasties it
contains, straight into landfill?
